Just as every patient is different, so is every treatment plan. Today, there are a great many highly effective medications available for the treatment of a wide variety of mental illnesses and behavioral issues. However, while medications can alleviate symptoms and troubling behavior, they are not without side effects. Dr. Kemp does prescribe medication when it’s appropriate, but she does so judiciously. In the early phase of treatment, Dr. Kemp will often recommend frequent office visits to assess the efficacy of the medication and to monitor for any side effects. Therapy, another excellent treatment tool, is incorporated into each visit whether or not medications are recommended. Additionally, collaboration with the patient’s talk therapist, primary care provider, and other parties involved in the patient’s life can also be very helpful in providing the best possible care.
